Facility History
The GVPM is a large
new facility that has been designed and built at Politecnico di Milano.
The aim of this project was to improve the capabilities of Politecnico di Milano in aerodynamic testing.
The first
preliminary studies started in 1993 (the aerodynamic design process was supported by CFD calculations and by experimental investigations on a small scale model).
The project was driven by two constraints. First
the facility was to be housed in an existing building.
Second
there was a need for different kinds of testing
ranging from civil to aeronautical engineering applications. Such constraints led to a rather unconventional layout.
The construction began in 1998 and the wind tunnel started operating in 2002.
